I think most people want to believe in a god, in someone, something bigger, stronger then they – more helpful and understanding than their friends, but they’re just not sure…
Maybe they think there is a higher power out there watching, looking down on them; but don’t know if that higher power or being or whatever it is loves them, could love them, care about them, could help them. Or would it only hold things against them, be always watching and recording their mistakes and flaws…
This morning on my walk in this beautiful northern snowy day – 4″ snow and still snowing – the daffodils hiding underneath some of the branches, already showing colors of spring and the birds tweeting like it was spring, I thought, ‘this is one of the ways God is showing He cares about us. That in the midst of a cold dark winter, He sends the beauty of thick snow to cover the dark and redecorate with fresh winter apparel.’ The snow covers every branch all the way to the center of the trees – even the tiniest branch wears a meringue of fresh snow!
It’s so still and quiet, and then a bird tweets and another one happily tweets back…cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, goldfinch and bluebirds (yes, even the bluebirds are scouting for new homes).
Fluffy, puffy, white clouds and patches of clear blue sky look over the trees and bushes of every shape, size, color, texture…all coated in winter white.
I know God cares about us. He cares about our world, our landscape. Why would a non-caring being go to the extent to provide such a feast for our eyes to look at?
All I can do on this snowy day is stop in the middle of my walk and do a 360* saying over and over, “It’s so beautiful!”
I know God cares for us.
What do you see?
P.S. I wrote this a year ago. For some reason I never published it. But it is still true.
