Can a Storm Strengthen Me?

Some don’t like storms. The fear of damage, destruction and loss. Even the wind blowing can cause a panic.

Yet there is a good side to storms. The strong winds are a natural form of pruning – blowing off dead and weak branches…blowing down leaves in the fall to mulch the corners of the garden and woods. The wind actually causes roots and branches to grow stronger as they stand up to resist the wind’s power.

Our bodies grow stronger – bones and muscles – as we work and use them. Kneading bread will really strengthen your core. Washing windows and mopping floors stretches and lubricates all kinds of our muscles. Even thinking through hard problems calls upon hidden reserves of our mind looking for solutions. We are made to weather storms and come out stronger through them.

One lightning bolt adds natural nitrogen fertilizer to acres of land with a single strike. That’s why everything is greener after a good thunderstorm.

Storms show us loose shingles that blew off the roof – possible leak this winter. The wind helps us see where to plug up drafty windows and doors, or where the ground is low around the foundation and water pools into the basement, and then we find out the sump pump stopped working.

Personally, when storms caused by another’s comment or action try to rock our boat, we can see the area we need to shore up better so we’re not weak and touchy there. We can discover and correct character flaws when those windy gales blow on us. Yes, sometimes these storms appear suddenly out of nowhere. But we can prepare and use the storm to strengthen us and see what we’re made of.

Has the wind been blowing hard in some direction in your life you need to strengthen? I know it has in mine.

Let’s grow stronger together.

The Wind

How many of us are afraid of the wind?

The wind blows hard, and people become afraid. Yes, the wind is powerful, but it has purpose. Once we understand its purpose, we can become more comfortable.

Every season the wind blows and blows hard! I would lay in bed and just listen. Or sit in the chair watching out the window wondering…finally, I realized the wind is not something scary, but its purpose is to blow in the new season and blow out the old! In spring, it blows out the cold winter and blows in fresh breezes of a new season. It blows hard at times to help prune the trees, cleaning out the weak and old and readying for new growth. In summer the winds blow out cooler spring bringing in warmer weather for new flowers and leaves and to help pollinate. The fall winds come blowing out summer, blowing hard to bring down all the leaves, ripen remaining late season crops and ready the plants for winter’s cold. The winter winds come blowing fall away and bringing snow and rest for the land and farmers, while we plan our gardens for next spring 🙂 !

Wind is necessary to sail boats. It helps planes fly. Many fear flying in turbulence not realizing the plane is designed to fly in turbulence. It can handle it! So passengers can rest assured of their destination and enjoy the ride.

The wind blows in storm clouds, rain, thunder and lightning which fertilizes a massive amount of land with one strike! That’s why the grass and trees are so green after a good thunderstorm. Wind blows scents and smells to help wildlife survive.

Next time the wind blows, remember some of these purposes and be more at ease. It is all part of the plan of nature.

Pull Out the Stops!

It’s time to pull out all the stops!

In organ lingo, that means—let all the pipes you got play!

Let ‘er rip! Open it up! We want the FULL SOUND!!!

It’s time for all us us to step up and step it up. Our world needs to hear all the notes we have been given to play.

We are here for a reason and every pipe in the organ is needed and needs to be played now!

If you can only play softly at first…begin there. At least get your organ legs moving. The Master Organist will bring out your sound loud and clear as you let His wind blow across your pipes.

What is stopping your music from being played? Can you find out and open it up to share with the world?

We need to hear your sound.
