Higher Powers Part II

Think of all the higher powers used today. Most have to do with something spiritual – filling a need we cannot.

Can a higher power be anything other than me? Surely it has to be more intelligent, more aggressive, stronger in many aspects…at least think differently. I know I’m limited so I want my higher power to be what I am not.

  • Can I change my higher power to something else if I change my mind?
  • Can my higher power be the same as somebody else’s?
  • Can I tell my higher power what I want?
  • Can my higher power hear me talk to it?
  • Does my higher power like me?
  • Can I see my higher power, can I look at it?

Is my higher power working for me? Am I working for it?

Why?

Leaving Home

Some earthly fathers make their kids leave home at age 18. Ready or not, away you go!

Time to flap your wings and fend for yourself. This is needful to learn and develop independence many times. Some parents, in a sense abandon their kids after a certain point to force them to mature and make decisions on their own.

If God is your Father, He will never kick you out of His house. You will always be welcome in His home and live there perpetually. You can ask him any questions you have, talk with him about anything, show him things in your life, and he’s never too busy, or on his phone distracted from your conversation. He sees you and understands every part about you. He knows why we do what we do and why we don’t. He wants to help us understand things about ourselves so we can grow stronger, be more useful, have more peace and joy.

‘I can’t even believe if there is a god, that he would even bother with these minuscule things pertaining to me.’ Well, he does. He made every snowflake look different, but equally beautiful. Look at nature. Every plant has its own style leaf, bark, root system, light and water requirements. Each of us humans have tiny cells that we can’t see but hold things together so we don’t fall apart. If there is a god interested in the outward and physical aspects of us, why wouldn’t he be interested in the inward parts of us…our mental and emotional and spiritual qualities.

My hope is for all ‘us peoples’ to recognize and know we aren’t on our own to figure out life and death and how to make life work. We have a god to turn to, who wants to help and direct us for good. Have you met him? If you talk to him, he will answer and help you.

Who Do I Want to Become?

Lots of talk – even in my talk. Who am I? Where am I going? What should I do?

I think our first question should be – who do I want to become? This will open the door to see where we are going, what direction to take.

Look at your present state as your starting place – not a permanent situation you are always trying to escape from. See it as the start. Like in a race, the gate is behind you. The whole lane, field, world is ahead of you waiting for you to run through it and to it.

The ‘being’ will lead to the ‘doing’.

Once we decide who we want to be, we can figure out the steps we need to take…the path to get on…the lane to drive in… what exits to get off or on.

Again, this takes self-introspection. You are unique. Each of us are. We have to assess our likes, dislikes, skills, talents, abilities. We have to take notice of ourselves. Not in a comparative way, but in a curious way. What do I have to bring value to this world? How am I crafted?

This is not being selfish. This is part of self-development and necessary for growth.

Right now I’m thinking of horse whisperers. The whisperer has to go quietly and slowly around the horse to understand it and for the horse to understand them.  There is a lot of listening involved. This is how they begin their communication. Time. Patience. Listening. Observing. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

We need to do this with ourselves. Tune out everybody, everything and learn how you’re crafted…not what someone else tries to tell us how you’re made. Too often others try to tell you how you should be when they themselves don’t know who they are or what they are doing. Don’t fall for letting another person manage your life!

What is one aspect I want more to become?
