Forgotten Victories

Nothing is going right! Not a thing! Today is downhill!!

Oh really? Have you forgotten something? Have you forgotten your previous victories?

Previous victories mean there are more to come. We need to put a pause on the downcast moment of the present and recall the triumphs of the past.

Remember when?

  • You got your first job
  • You earned your first paycheck
  • You passed your driver’s license test
  • You graduated from high school or college
  • You found a wonderful spouse
  • Your first baby was born
  • Your good idea earned you a promotion
  • You overcame a long-standing bad habit
  • You learned a new language
  • You learned a new skill
  • You figured out a difficult situation
  • You made the right decision in a very hard moment, and it was the best decision

‘Oh, yeah, I forgot about all of these. I guess I have had a lot of victories in the past.’

Don’t let these remain forgotten. Pick a time and write them down for remembrance sake. Keep a file of all the positive emails or correspondence you’ve received so when the ‘Nothing’s going right’ strike, you have a rebuttal against them.

Pull From Your Past

Some of us didn’t have the best past. ‘There’s nothing good back there for me.’

You might be wrong about that. No matter how bad our past, there is some nugget we can pull from to help us on our way. It will propel us forward; give us stamina and determination if we let it. ‘All there is was failure in my past’. Good! Then you can learn what not to do and what doesn’t work. ‘Nobody got along in my family…fights all the time!’ Good! Now you might excel learning new people skills to help others with their family problems.

Every thunderstorm has a rainbow of light somewhere. We just have to look!

‘There’s nothing to help me. I just like to keep house.’ So with that idea mom decided to become an interior designer and made a successful business. Others are really good at cleaning and have made a life helping others. ‘All I know how to do is take care of my dog.’ Good! Start a pet care business – walking and pet sitting for others or maybe become a dog groomer.

‘All my parents did was collect old junk!’ Start a shop in ebay or etsy or maybe in your our garage. Begin selling (maybe even collecting ‘new junk’ to sell). There are lots of people who want your old junk!

‘We didn’t have much growing up – no TV or video games – only books’. Great, you probably have lots of knowledge others might like knowing/hearing about. What could you do, start, create with this situation? I’ve heard it said, ‘everything we need is already inside us’. Find what it is. It can be your best adventure!

We don’t want to get stuck in the past. Use it. Pull from it to create your new future! It is waiting for you to get started.

Let me see…all I have is… But wait!! 🙂

The Trail

Each of our lives comes from a trail and leaves a trail.

Great Grandpa from northern Illinois was a wagon master on the Oregon Trail back in the 1800’s. My relatives along with others made the trip to Oregon City, Oregon. Some stayed, some came back, and some went back again.

We all have/need/want a known past; a place of belonging; to know where we ‘fit’ into the history of things. Did me or my family make a difference? What happened? What were the struggles and triumphs? What did they learn? What can I learn from my past? What do I have to pass on to my future families?

We want to belong to a tribe/clan/group. We want our ‘identifiers’ – this is my heritage -where I belong!

Some of us don’t know our past or had a bad past we don’t want to pass on. There is still a good future ahead for you. We can, beginning today, start a new trail to leave behind. In essence, we can create a new and better ‘past’ for ourselves and our families yet to come. Our past is not limited to what we don’t know or didn’t like. We have the opportunity to begin again, make better decisions, think up new ideas of what we’d like to see – and start now! We don’t have to wait to begin making a new trail to leave behind. We can clear the way so others can follow learning from what we went through.

So pick you a good past… something you might like to have lived, by picking and living a good present and future. You are the wagon master of your life.

Giddy up!
