The Pull Back

*Progress! noun (accomplishment; deed done)

*Progress! verb (moving forward to attain a desired goal)

…my definitions…

But wait! It seems there are always things (forces) or thoughts trying to pull us back…not letting us progress towards our progress!

*Letting. Gerund (allowing something, someone to prevent us from moving forward out of our rut)

Again the 80/20 principle takes effect. Most are fearful of change, the unknown, the ‘what-ifs?’ so they hold back and want to hold you back too. The braver ones push on ahead seeing the end result of their progress in the minds eye…resulting in the bridges, skyscrapers, planes, computers, telephones, software…just about all the things we enjoy today. They crossed the line of fear and doubt.

Why not go all in with your thinking and making and doing. Go all out! Make the best craziest good thing or way of doing things anybody’s ever seen! Why not! Get those ideas out in public where they can be acted on. Why settle for mere status quo, only going so far, not wanting to draw too much attention to yourself so you pull back and settle in with the rest of the 80%. This is where inferior productivity arises.

On the road to nowhere…There was a good song with this title decades ago…happens alot! Might want to listen to it.

Do not, I repeat, do not settle your life into the 80% bracket of comfort, ease, no challenges, boring, nothing to look forward to [but at least I’m safe (more about this subject later)].

Climb yourself out of the ‘can’t do rut’ and get in the ‘can do lane’ and speed on ahead with the other 20% who are going somewhere doing important work.

Don’t let yourself get pulled back. Don’t even pull yourself back.

Keep progressing v. with your progress n. and see what good might happen!

Your Idea

Ideas! Ideas! Ideas! We all have ideas. They’re like little brainstorms happening inside our heads!

Some are mere passing rain clouds while others just might have something to them. Examine the passing clouds and see if their waters hold any weight! Yours might be the next helpful idea to get you through. Or maybe it’s for your company or family situation that will move you forward.

I have many, many ideas about so many things and sometimes voicing them as ‘some crazy idea of mine’…yet is it always crazy? Maybe it was just what I needed!!!

‘Nah, they won’t be interested. That wouldn’t work. It’s too far out! How could I do that? Could it really happen?’…and we discredit the idea rather than think about it more… Another good idea thrown to the wind!

Everything done and made began as somebody’s ‘big idea’.

Like what???

  • Every painting you see
  • Every house built
  • Every sink or stove or washing machine or blender or coffee pot!
  • Every wallpaper, piece of fabric, paint color
  • Every loaf of bread, spaghetti, or sauce
  • Even the different types of plants and flowers that were crossbred to make a different color

You name it, somebody made it! But it began with their idea first!

Think again. You’ve got a life full of creations if you begin with your good ideas and carry through.

Don’t hold yourself back. Just get started and keep moving!

Now, about that idea I was thinking…

Who Says I Can’t?

Can’t do something fulfilling and meaningful?

Can’t work on a job I enjoy?

Can’t be my best self at work?

Can’t speak out my creative ideas?

Can’t find people who like what I like?

Can’t find what I like to do?

Can’t live where I want to live?

Can’t make a change in my life?

Who said these things? Is it really true? Do I have to believe it?

…or could there be something better…some other way?

Am I powerless over my own life, to cherish and challenge it, to develop it and succeed?

Is it pride to think or desire to do these things, or is it my fears trying to hold me back…keep me safe…and from what?

Because if I hold back, not only will I be held back, but by my example I hold others back.

I believe we need to think forward and move forward, constantly getting better, making better and doing better.

They said the Golden Gate bridge could not be built, but there she stands…decades later, the result of one man’s turning others ‘can’ts’ into ‘I can’!

Where do we need to take away the ‘t’ in our lives?
