Don’t Stoop to Their Level

My mother said this many times to me growing up.

Somebody’d do something to me I didn’t like, call me names, write something bad about me, and I’d start to get mad and envision how I’d set the record straight – fight back – whatever I felt like to get even. Mom would hear me talking or see me thinking and say, “Don’t stoop to their level.”

Yes, why should I become like and do like what the other person did to me that I didn’t like? Sounds so basic but in a tiff, we can’t often see straight.

Personally, I think we need to shed a whole lot of the victim-hood mentality and stand up and be the bigger and better person. Be the example of how a good person responds to insult and berating. Be the example of how to go ahead with your life and make it a better life because of what you went through! Why not? Why shouldn’t you take the upper hand in your life? Why should you succumb to somebody else’s poor mouth and decisions? Of course it hurt, it was perhaps cruel, but we’re not in the eye for eye, tooth for tooth group. We’ve moved past that. I know it sounds tough, but it takes personal toughness to be the better person, and inside that’s really who we want to be.

Yes, we can triumph in adversity, see beauty in ugliness, and become peaceful in the storm. and it won’t always be easy, but we can learn and do it – little by little.

Let’s be the beacon on the hilltop – not fighting in the mud with accusers.

Step out of the mud. Don’t stoop to their level. That’s not who you are.

God’s Healing You

We all need to be healed…healed of something – physical or otherwise.

God often heals us while we’re asleep…sleeping. We don’t realize or know He’s doing the work at the time, but so often that’s how it happens.

When my kids were growing up and got sick, I’d put them to bed and pray they would have a nice healing sleep. That has been many years ago. Recently, I was praying for one of them -all grown up now (unbeknownst to them); I’d prayed as I went to bed and the next morning the whole prayer came to mind again. I remembered them and remembered God, and a peace came over me that God was healing them (unbeknownst to them – they didn’t know Mom had prayed for them). Yes God, who made them would heal them too and He would heal them as they slept.

I guess you could say that’s how God sometimes operates on us to make us better.

It comforted me.

Have you experienced this?

Pull From Your Past

Some of us didn’t have the best past. ‘There’s nothing good back there for me.’

You might be wrong about that. No matter how bad our past, there is some nugget we can pull from to help us on our way. It will propel us forward; give us stamina and determination if we let it. ‘All there is was failure in my past’. Good! Then you can learn what not to do and what doesn’t work. ‘Nobody got along in my family…fights all the time!’ Good! Now you might excel learning new people skills to help others with their family problems.

Every thunderstorm has a rainbow of light somewhere. We just have to look!

‘There’s nothing to help me. I just like to keep house.’ So with that idea mom decided to become an interior designer and made a successful business. Others are really good at cleaning and have made a life helping others. ‘All I know how to do is take care of my dog.’ Good! Start a pet care business – walking and pet sitting for others or maybe become a dog groomer.

‘All my parents did was collect old junk!’ Start a shop in ebay or etsy or maybe in your our garage. Begin selling (maybe even collecting ‘new junk’ to sell). There are lots of people who want your old junk!

‘We didn’t have much growing up – no TV or video games – only books’. Great, you probably have lots of knowledge others might like knowing/hearing about. What could you do, start, create with this situation? I’ve heard it said, ‘everything we need is already inside us’. Find what it is. It can be your best adventure!

We don’t want to get stuck in the past. Use it. Pull from it to create your new future! It is waiting for you to get started.

Let me see…all I have is… But wait!! 🙂
