Pull From Your Past

Some of us didn’t have the best past. ‘There’s nothing good back there for me.’

You might be wrong about that. No matter how bad our past, there is some nugget we can pull from to help us on our way. It will propel us forward; give us stamina and determination if we let it. ‘All there is was failure in my past’. Good! Then you can learn what not to do and what doesn’t work. ‘Nobody got along in my family…fights all the time!’ Good! Now you might excel learning new people skills to help others with their family problems.

Every thunderstorm has a rainbow of light somewhere. We just have to look!

‘There’s nothing to help me. I just like to keep house.’ So with that idea mom decided to become an interior designer and made a successful business. Others are really good at cleaning and have made a life helping others. ‘All I know how to do is take care of my dog.’ Good! Start a pet care business – walking and pet sitting for others or maybe become a dog groomer.

‘All my parents did was collect old junk!’ Start a shop in ebay or etsy or maybe in your our garage. Begin selling (maybe even collecting ‘new junk’ to sell). There are lots of people who want your old junk!

‘We didn’t have much growing up – no TV or video games – only books’. Great, you probably have lots of knowledge others might like knowing/hearing about. What could you do, start, create with this situation? I’ve heard it said, ‘everything we need is already inside us’. Find what it is. It can be your best adventure!

We don’t want to get stuck in the past. Use it. Pull from it to create your new future! It is waiting for you to get started.

Let me see…all I have is… But wait!! 🙂

Government

Good government begins with self-government.

If we can govern ourselves, we will be eligible to govern (steward) others – beginning with our families, in our churches and communities. People will see we are a person of integrity, with wisdom and good morals. They will come to us with questions and concerns, and we’ll be able to help them or point them to someone who can.

This is how good leaders start. This is where good government begins. From the local. From the ground up. From the family – a small governing body by itself. From the respectful and responsible father to the thoughtful and industrious mother. All the kids get involved; learning to see what can be done and help. They become independent thinkers on the lookout for a good project to begin!

Self-government is one of our highest freedoms, leading to all other freedoms we enjoy and want to have. It is the hardest, yet the most needful in a free society. Great strength under control! That’s the real meaning of meekness.

We are a strong country, a strong people. Let’s lead ourselves through our own self-control to become what we’d like to see in others – set the example for our children, families and youth. .

Don’t let others dictate to you how they think you should be. You dictate through your life, your honesty, your integrity, your faithfulness to your word, your love for family, your willingness to help keep up your part of the world and begin to see the difference.

There are many followers. They need a good leader to point them in the right direction. Point them by your life. Give them hope for a better future.

You (me) be the change  🙂

Tend the Land

God put us in the land and told us to tend it.

We have a lot of tending to do I noticed walking through a parking lot the other day.

We will always be cleaning up after other people, but we need first to begin cleaning up after ourselves. If we can keep our allotment of land orderly (front porch, driveway, sidewalk, garage, barn, shed, bathroom, etc.); it will foster in the eyes of others the care of your ‘land’, and just might motivate them to tend their land better.

‘It’s not my trash, it flew out of the trash truck and landed in my yard!’ ‘I didn’t break the glass bottle on the street in front of my house, somebody else did!’

We’re sending signals to others around us how we do things in our land. Let’s send good signals that we are clean, neat, tidy, orderly, caring and respectful people. We will have to send these signals repeatedly, daily, over and over. That’s just the way it is. But it is worth it! You will feel better because you were helpful and did something good. Indirectly, others will feel better because things are orderly.

We individually can’t tidy up the whole world, but we can tend our small ‘plot of land’.

What do I need to tend to today on my land?
