Fall Comfort

There’s a certain autumn comfort around crops being harvested…

…Trees turning colors, produce gathered and canned up or frozen… in anticipation of winter’s onslaught when the ground is frozen and hard.

Knowing we will be taken care of since we took care to plan ahead for our families and loved ones… and because crops have been abundant we could provide for others needs.

Growing up, one of my favorite songs to sing was, “Come Ye Thankful People Come”….raise the song of harvest home, all is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin, God our maker doth provide, for our wants to be supplied……… Singing the song and helping mom in the kitchen really brought peace and comfort to my soul.

God will provide.

He will provide for you.

Your Value

Couldn’t think of anything to say today, so closed the lid on the laptop…feeling a bit discouraged about things…

Went back to my default mode when things aren’t going right, I began cleaning… for me clarity comes when I am physically doing something…usually cleaning, organizing, doing a project or digging in the garden.

Started thinking about value, my value, your value, anything’s value.

What makes us valuable? Did somebody stick something in certain ones of us that makes some more valuable than others? Or is it because of something we’ve done to ourselves?….?

Is that why we’re tempted to place more value/importance on people we think more lovely, handsome, popular, wealthy, studious, or because of their pedigree, background, inventiveness, creativity, education, travel experience, nationality…fill in the blank_______.

Our real value comes from another being’s opinion of us, the one that made us. We value our kids because they came from us, they’re part of our family…don’t care if other people like them, think they’re cute or smart…they’re ours…that’s all that matters. They are worth it to us!

So too, we’re made by the God of the universe, a real being who said we’re valuable, valuable to Him…we’re part of his family, his making. That gives us inherent value. Nobody can give it to you and nobody can take it away from you.

Your value…It’s yours to keep, ponder over, and live out!

Thank God!

Driving home from the ‘Y’ after my bike class tonight there was a long freight train crossing the road.

Many people were turning around to avoid it, but I thought, ‘no rush, I’ll just wait and cool off some more under the pine tree’s shade on my side of the road.

My plan for the evening was go home, shower and head to the pub for my favorite…blackened salmon salad with feta and ranch dressing and their special Friday night dessert. Tonight it was homemade peanut butter pie!

Extreme gratitude came over my exhausted, sweat drenched self. All the good things I have to enjoy. I have a car to drive that’s paid for, comfortable home to live in, clean clothes to wear, good friends to talk with, the sun is shining, the birds are flying all over, family is close, a job I like. (Yes, I have lots of other type trials going on), but:

I feel good, and I’m thanking God who made all this beauty, who allows me to breathe and enjoy and participate in life shared with other people.

Some people thank the universe…but who made the universe? I choose to acknowledge God because he is a heartfelt, real being who hears me and cares for me.

Thank God for another beautiful day!
