Speak to People!

We must break the self-imposed silent cycle of disacknowledging one another.

This is what I mean.

Today at the gas pump, a young guy on the other side of the pump was throwing something in the trash and I caught his eye and said to him, “It feels warmer today.” He laughed and said, “Yes, if the wind dies down it will be almost balmy!” It was 38*. We wished each other a good day and felt better.

As I walk by someone in the parking lot or inside an aisle at the store, I’ll frequently comment about the weather, the store, their outfit – anything to bring the other person out and be recognized.

We were not made to be hermits in our individual igloos only seeing us and ours. The world has been silenced, and we need to break it! People are starving for communication and just to be seen! Don’t let them down.

Your voice or even your wave can lift another person who is having a bad day. You, me, be the ones to lift and bring hope to the people we see.

Pioneers!

Are you a pioneer? Am I a pioneer? What is a pioneer?

Adventure, danger, the unknown, no trail to follow, rivers to cross, food to forage, animals to hunt, bobcats and bears to ward off, family to feed, babies to tend to, trees to chop, shelter to seek, weeds to pull, clothes to make, people to meet, stories to tell, sickness to overcome.

Great-grandfather was a wagon-master numerous times leading settlers from Illinois to Oregon City. My kids played “Oregon Trail” on the computer for days when growing up. A daughter has an ‘Oregon Trail’ historical marker in her back yard.

Life is an adventure. Yes, we are all pioneers of different sorts. Every time we begin a new venture, we are pioneering a brand new ad-venture! The risk, the unknown is part of the excitement. We have a picture in our mind’s eye but cannot see how it will all pan out. We can’t always count the cost… we don’t know how much it will cost so we just begin and keep moving forward because it’s what we want to do.

We each have a grand life to live ahead of us. Don’t be afraid to pull up your tent pegs and try something new. There is much still to be discovered, learned and tried. We humans have been given the best minds of all creation, and they need to be stretched and think and design, craft, create, build, develop, push forward, see better ways of doing things, keep on improving and helping others to do likewise.

Accept your pioneer spirit and forge ahead. Others may not see your path or want to go with you. Don’t let that stop you. There had to be the first pioneer. There has to be vision. Let it be yours to make something good and beneficial.

Hitch up your wagon and drive!

The Eye of Beauty

Can you see it? See what? See beauty around you!

It’s not a foreign word, although in some ways it seems disregarded.

Just what is beauty? It is seen in many ways…

Calm; color; vibrancy; order; cleanliness; clarity; detail; simplicity…

Beauty comes by inspiration – meaning God-breathed. Everything God made was beautiful. It had order, rhyme and reason – purpose to it. He breathed it out with his words, and it became. He spoke us into existence and said, ‘Go tend the garden…you’re made in My image…make more life, perpetuate it. Feed it. Encourage it. Take it and make it wherever you go. Be inspired by what I’ve done. I will inspire you to make more beauty.’

If we look closely at what God made, we will develop an eye for beauty. True beauty lasts. It is deeper than looks only.

Beauty brings comfort, peace, calm, joy, hope, encouragement, trust, relaxation, contentment…

How do you feel when you look at something beautifully made? Does it inspire you to make something beautiful or do something beautiful? It can become contagious.

By beauty, I don’t mean pretty. Beauty has an uplifting element to it…a nobility if you will, in that it causes you to notice it, and brings a surge of hopefulness.

I don’t understand how it all works, but it does.

What do you see and how does it affect you?
