Encouragement

To give courage is a good way of saying it.

This day and age we all need to be encouraged, and each of us need to be encouragers. We’re all fighting battles, mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and some days the battle seems a bit more intense. Some courage – even if borrowed from another – would be helpful.

Courage is transferable, just like dis-courage is transferable. Why not belong to the encouragement group of helping, lifting up, building up, holding up. The dis-courage group is seen everywhere…knock down, tear down, close down, telling them why it can’t be done…foolish, stupid, etc. etc. etc.  Is our inner networking built up by encouraging others or by knocking somebody down to go higher?

I believe the majority belong to the encouragement bunch who want to see good, be good and do good. But the dis-couragement bunch tries to prevent it. Sometimes that dis-couragement ‘bunch’ resides inside our own head! We have to root those thoughts out!

In the long run, good will overcome evil, but no sense in causing more suffering along the way by participating in the ‘dis-courage bunch’.

Today, let’s rise higher, think nobler, be better, build more, encourage more and see the difference. It may only be noticeable in you or to you. But all good things start with a single step. You start and take the first step.

Today, I will…:)

The Eye of Beauty

Can you see it? See what? See beauty around you!

It’s not a foreign word, although in some ways it seems disregarded.

Just what is beauty? It is seen in many ways…

Calm; color; vibrancy; order; cleanliness; clarity; detail; simplicity…

Beauty comes by inspiration – meaning God-breathed. Everything God made was beautiful. It had order, rhyme and reason – purpose to it. He breathed it out with his words, and it became. He spoke us into existence and said, ‘Go tend the garden…you’re made in My image…make more life, perpetuate it. Feed it. Encourage it. Take it and make it wherever you go. Be inspired by what I’ve done. I will inspire you to make more beauty.’

If we look closely at what God made, we will develop an eye for beauty. True beauty lasts. It is deeper than looks only.

Beauty brings comfort, peace, calm, joy, hope, encouragement, trust, relaxation, contentment…

How do you feel when you look at something beautifully made? Does it inspire you to make something beautiful or do something beautiful? It can become contagious.

By beauty, I don’t mean pretty. Beauty has an uplifting element to it…a nobility if you will, in that it causes you to notice it, and brings a surge of hopefulness.

I don’t understand how it all works, but it does.

What do you see and how does it affect you?

The Little Boy

A little boy comes up to the counter where I work with his mom and dad.

He’s probably 5 and has the sweetest smile. His parents and their parents and grandparents have all lived hard lives and are still struggling, yet this little boy seems so full of energy and happiness.

So I thought, ‘What can I do to help him find a different path arriving at a different destination than his parents’…because the childhood often determines the adulthood.

I give fun colorful stickers to girls and boys who come in and several times he has gotten a race-car sticker which really excited him.

The other day I gave him a shiny silver trophy sticker and told him I was giving it to him because he was a winner, and a good little boy.

I don’t know what his home life is like but his father made some comment to him after I said that. I thought, ‘I hope the little boy can remember the words I spoke over him.’

As he left with his parents, I spoke again to him, ‘Tell people, you are a winner!’

I haven’t seen him for a while now, I hope all is well with him and my words settled inside him somewhere.

I want to use my words to encourage as many little people as possible. Growing up, the good words by adults spoken to me are still remembered and cherished.

How can our words bring life to the children we cross paths with today?
