Afraid to Think!

Why??? God gave you your very own mind and you were created with a free will! Free to think!

But I don’t know what to think or how. This is something for you to think about. It’s easy to go through life letting others – high and low, tell us what to do and what to think, but you have a life to live and the freedom to think and decide on your own. Really, on the inside, you want to but don’t trust your own thoughts many times.

One of the best cures for this is to get alone, turn everything off and think. One of my favorite places to think was at the ironing board (what’s that?) or working in the flower bed with my hands in the dirt.

  • Think about the things you want to think about – one at a time.
  • Are these my thoughts?
  • Do I think they are true and beneficial?
  • How do I feel inside about this subject?
  • Think about others who have successfully navigated this.
  • Look to the examples from the past – from past centuries!
  • Read good books to become knowledgeable.
  • Talk about it with a very close friend – in person preferably.
  • Then think some more.

Good thinking is a process, takes time, careful observation, solitude and often change in ourselves.

YOU! Be the master of your own thoughts. Develop and grow and become who you really want to be. It’s your mind! And your life!

God Conscience

God put his conscience for what is right and what is wrong inside each and every human being.

Because we are made by him in his image. Why? He wants us to succeed – to grow – to develop. He created a good world with good purposes for good people to live a good life with each other and to tend the good land.

This sounds like a fairy tale! Nevertheless, this was his original plan. But we can’t live and do his plan without him.

Maybe, just for today, we could ask him to help us with these things in our life and see what happens. Maybe, just maybe, he might help us.

And then…

Try!

Try, try again!

The best way to conquer fear of failure or failure itself is to try again. There’s nothing like a fresh start to get you moving again…to get your ideas flowing.

‘Yea, but I’ve tried and failed so many times, I feel shut down and tired of trying!’

I had an old car. It was a 1984 Audi 5000s… butter yellow. Loved it! But sometimes it took many times to get started. One sunny, bitter cold day in Chicago, I was leaving my son’s and sitting in the car working to get it started. It was a combination of pressing the gas pedal, while turning the engine and holding it just the right amount of time until the engine caught. I couldn’t try too many times in a row, or it’d flood the engine, but I did have to keep trying. After a number of times it finally started and kept running and I was able to drive home. I knew it would start eventually; I had been through this a number of times previously. But I had to try. It could have seemed easier to quit and say, ‘It’s not going to work’…and then I couldn’t go anywhere.

It’s the same way in life in so many other areas. We tend to give up too quickly. We need to develop our tenacity…we all have it, but it has to develop from its seed form.  Really, it’s part of growth. Try and grow a little bit. Try and fail and stop and think. Try again and move a step forward. Then again until it works, and you feel more confident.

Have you given up on something you need to try again?
