Try Something New!

The rut! How often do we get stuck in the rut?

What is ‘the rut’? My definition is: a familiar place we are comfortable in – where nothing really changes. We know what to expect – no surprises. (same ole, same ole)

So we get stuck in the false ‘safety’ of the rut. I’ve been in the rut many times over my life. It’s familiar, a good place to ‘hide out’…just coast. You can’t see me, and I can’t see anything either.

The good-bad thing about the rut is that nothing changes. Actually though, there are changes. When there is no forward movement things (you/me) begin to stagnate…that’s when algae begins to form. Barnacles start to attach themselves. We gotta shake ’em off!!!

That’s why we need to TRY SOMETHING NEW! We have to stir the waters! Get things freshened up again. Shake out the rugs. Pull the weeds. Mow the grass. Run the vacuum cleaner. Go for a drive to someplace we’ve never been before. Think of a new something you can make.

Get out your ladder and climb out of the rut. Then take your shovel and fill it in and plant a tree or something…anything…so you or somebody else won’t fall into it again, and believe me, there will be plenty of other ruts trying to trip you up in life.

BUT! If we stay ‘fit’ mentally, physically and emotionally, we soon won’t need the ladder to climb out of any ruts, we’ll be able to jump out and eventually, we’ll see them ahead of us and leap over them. Won’t that feel wonderful! High-jumping and long-jumping through life with new found freedom!

Are you ready to get out of the rut?

Ready – set – JUMP!

Find Your Style

We constantly have voices from our past telling us, reminding us, persuading us who we should be, what we should say, how we need to write.

Back in ye old English class, we learned all the correct phraseology, when to use this word and that comma, and don’t use contractions, it’s not formal, etc., etc., etc.

BUT as we adult on in life, we develop our own style to something that fits our personality, our family, our peoples.

I have to fight against those voices everytime I put hand to keyboard.

…what I should, how I should, would Mrs. Bach, my senior composition teacher, like me to write, vs what I want to convey.

My original goals for this blog were:

…be myself

…encourage people

…bring something good and uplifting

…cause people to think

…don’t sound religious

…don’t write like an English major

…not too many words

That’s my style so far.

What’s yours?

I QUIT!

Time for the honest truth….no other kind of truth really…

Winter, about 4 years ago, I quit writing on my blog…let it expire, didn’t contribute anything good for anybody…just quit thinking about good things to write about.

So much for all my talk about doing good and then not doing my good…writing about it…encouraging others to do their good.

Then about a year ago, I began thinking about things, how I really needed to begin again; I even told God, if He’d give me ideas to write that I would. But I never did.

Today during a very hard time, a thought came to mind, and rather than forget about it, I sat down to write about it.

You will read it in the next post.

That’s my confession, now I’m back in the saddle.

We need to talk about the good going on everywhere, with so much negative, down in the mouth talk at every angle, our boats are starting to sink. It’s time to tip the scales in the other direction….up!!!

There’s gobs of good going on all over…
