The Wind

How many of us are afraid of the wind?

The wind blows hard, and people become afraid. Yes, the wind is powerful, but it has purpose. Once we understand its purpose, we can become more comfortable.

Every season the wind blows and blows hard! I would lay in bed and just listen. Or sit in the chair watching out the window wondering…finally, I realized the wind is not something scary, but its purpose is to blow in the new season and blow out the old! In spring, it blows out the cold winter and blows in fresh breezes of a new season. It blows hard at times to help prune the trees, cleaning out the weak and old and readying for new growth. In summer the winds blow out cooler spring bringing in warmer weather for new flowers and leaves and to help pollinate. The fall winds come blowing out summer, blowing hard to bring down all the leaves, ripen remaining late season crops and ready the plants for winter’s cold. The winter winds come blowing fall away and bringing snow and rest for the land and farmers, while we plan our gardens for next spring 🙂 !

Wind is necessary to sail boats. It helps planes fly. Many fear flying in turbulence not realizing the plane is designed to fly in turbulence. It can handle it! So passengers can rest assured of their destination and enjoy the ride.

The wind blows in storm clouds, rain, thunder and lightning which fertilizes a massive amount of land with one strike! That’s why the grass and trees are so green after a good thunderstorm. Wind blows scents and smells to help wildlife survive.

Next time the wind blows, remember some of these purposes and be more at ease. It is all part of the plan of nature.

Thoughts

Could my thoughts help your thoughts?

Could what I think about be translated into something beneficial to you?

That’s all an idea is. It is a thought. It grows a tiny bit, and an idea begins to emerge. Then more thoughts come and are added to the original thought. Sometimes others will add their thoughts to your thoughts and make a powerful idea!

Observe your thoughts. Develop the good ones. See where these thoughts might take you.

Don’t be afraid to think differently. How many great inventions came because someone thought differently? The sewing machine, the horseless carriage, the telephone, electricity, the light bulb, batteries, bridges…computers, YouTube, Instagram, Venmo, PayPal…   These are things we use every day! (They’re almost a requirement for living in most of the world and we are thankful for them).

Where might your next thought lead you…Where might it lead someone else?

Share your good thoughts!

I Can’t…

Saturday morning at the ice-rink a boy about 7 years old kept falling down.

The instructor would help him up and he’d fall again. When she got him up he only wanted to hold on to her. He didn’t want to try to stand or skate alone.

I could see the look on his face. Total frustration, almost red-faced anger at his young age. The instructor would help him time and time again – even getting down on the ice and showing him how to position his feet and legs so he could get up by himself like all the other young skaters were. Everyone was falling down and eventually getting back up all by themselves. This little boy was not really trying. He’d look like he tried to get up and then fall again and squirm until someone came to ‘help’ him. The instructors were looking back and forth at each other wondering how many times to ‘help’ him – when he would not help himself. He was not incapable – just not-capable because of his thinking. Somewhere along the way, he had given in to the ‘I can’t’ mentality. I imagine it was more than just on the ice.

The reason I could see it so clearly is that had been me at different times in my life…Algebra and math. I just ‘couldn’t‘ (I thought). Or meeting new people. I was too shy (unwilling to step out of my security box). I put off learning computers for years – thinking it was a passing fad. ‘I can’t‘ trying to rule me again.

Many times, teachers have learned…allow the student to struggle until they are hungry enough to learn. Then they will.

Back to the boy on the ice. He wasn’t ready to learn. Not yet. Give him a little more time, or maybe find something else he is interested in. Don’t nurture the ‘I can’t’.

In our mind, if we will remove the ‘t‘, it will spell, ‘I can‘. The first step is begin to recognize all our ‘I can’ts’

Where can I begin today?
