Pioneers!

Are you a pioneer? Am I a pioneer? What is a pioneer?

Adventure, danger, the unknown, no trail to follow, rivers to cross, food to forage, animals to hunt, bobcats and bears to ward off, family to feed, babies to tend to, trees to chop, shelter to seek, weeds to pull, clothes to make, people to meet, stories to tell, sickness to overcome.

Great-grandfather was a wagon-master numerous times leading settlers from Illinois to Oregon City. My kids played “Oregon Trail” on the computer for days when growing up. A daughter has an ‘Oregon Trail’ historical marker in her back yard.

Life is an adventure. Yes, we are all pioneers of different sorts. Every time we begin a new venture, we are pioneering a brand new ad-venture! The risk, the unknown is part of the excitement. We have a picture in our mind’s eye but cannot see how it will all pan out. We can’t always count the cost… we don’t know how much it will cost so we just begin and keep moving forward because it’s what we want to do.

We each have a grand life to live ahead of us. Don’t be afraid to pull up your tent pegs and try something new. There is much still to be discovered, learned and tried. We humans have been given the best minds of all creation, and they need to be stretched and think and design, craft, create, build, develop, push forward, see better ways of doing things, keep on improving and helping others to do likewise.

Accept your pioneer spirit and forge ahead. Others may not see your path or want to go with you. Don’t let that stop you. There had to be the first pioneer. There has to be vision. Let it be yours to make something good and beneficial.

Hitch up your wagon and drive!

Pull From Your Past

Some of us didn’t have the best past. ‘There’s nothing good back there for me.’

You might be wrong about that. No matter how bad our past, there is some nugget we can pull from to help us on our way. It will propel us forward; give us stamina and determination if we let it. ‘All there is was failure in my past’. Good! Then you can learn what not to do and what doesn’t work. ‘Nobody got along in my family…fights all the time!’ Good! Now you might excel learning new people skills to help others with their family problems.

Every thunderstorm has a rainbow of light somewhere. We just have to look!

‘There’s nothing to help me. I just like to keep house.’ So with that idea mom decided to become an interior designer and made a successful business. Others are really good at cleaning and have made a life helping others. ‘All I know how to do is take care of my dog.’ Good! Start a pet care business – walking and pet sitting for others or maybe become a dog groomer.

‘All my parents did was collect old junk!’ Start a shop in ebay or etsy or maybe in your our garage. Begin selling (maybe even collecting ‘new junk’ to sell). There are lots of people who want your old junk!

‘We didn’t have much growing up – no TV or video games – only books’. Great, you probably have lots of knowledge others might like knowing/hearing about. What could you do, start, create with this situation? I’ve heard it said, ‘everything we need is already inside us’. Find what it is. It can be your best adventure!

We don’t want to get stuck in the past. Use it. Pull from it to create your new future! It is waiting for you to get started.

Let me see…all I have is… But wait!! 🙂

Your Mind is a Treasure Chest

What treasures are you keeping in your treasure chest? Your mental treasure chest?

Are they something valuable and helpful to you. Will these treasures be something you want to pass on to your children and future generations?

We lived in a century old brick house while the kids grew up. In the attic, the former owners left an old trunk…filled with treasures from days of yore. No expensive treasures, mostly vintage picture albums and pictures of people no one knew or remembered. Was kind of sad in a way…forgotten memories that no one was interested in anymore.

Sometimes we might need to or want to do a mental refresh, a housecleaning of sorts. Seeing what’s in our mind’s attic or basement that’s no longer benefitting us…might need to be tossed or given away. Old habits, old responsibilities no longer yours to deal with, old resentments, anger, jealousies to be removed. Get that treasure chest cleaned out so new sparkly treasures can be stored there…thankfulness, good memories, forgiveness, happy times, new friendships and adventures…things you want to savor and pass on.

Nothing wrong with the treasure chest, it may be old, but it’s still good. Just needs to be revamped with better treasures.

Venture into the attic of your mind. Look at the treasures stored. Make some good decisions and move ahead.
