One Size Fits All?

I’m not standardized! You aren’t either!

I don’t fit in! You’re not supposed to!

We are all humankind, male or female, yet we are unlike in so many other ways. What works for you might not work for me. I like country living; you love city life. I learn best by observation. You like the classroom. I like to get up early. You are a late morning person. I like talking with people; you’re more reserved. I am interested in color and words; you like numbers and engineering.

We need all of you. Every one of you and your likes and dislikes. We have a world full of people. You can help them. We all balance each other out.

Again, this boils down to discovering and accepting our likes and dislikes, our strengths and weaknesses. We can use this knowledge to help build others, to build ideas and see things someone else wouldn’t.

Don’t feel disqualified or tempted to find fault with someone unlike you. We need the unique contributions each brings to the table.

If there were no different colors, if all the trees were alike, all the flowers were the same, all the birds sang the same song, the food all tasted the same… 😦

Embrace who you are. Don’t feel you need to change to make someone else happy. Work on yourself. Be your best each day. It’s a growth process, but you will be rewarded. You will notice the change. Your gifts and talents will become stronger. You will become more comfortable with who you were made to be!

Afraid to Try…

How many of us are afraid to try…

To try what? Anything! Anything different you’ve not done before or aren’t familiar with.

New furniture arrangement, new color, new style outfit, new food, new activity.

New learning, new language, new computer program, new online class, new friend, new coffee shop.

Why?

Fear of:

  • Failure
  • It’s too hard
  • What if I don’t like it?
  • Might be a waste of time
  • It might make things worse
  • I might forget how I did it and it wouldn’t happen again
  • What if I succeeded? How would I move forward
  • What if somebody thinks what I am interested in is dumb

We could fight these fears in everything we do, but we don’t. It seems there are certain things that alarm us. If we can figure out what the problem is, we can deal with it and move ahead.

Let’s not be afraid to stop and think about what’s causing us to be fearful so we can excel in life.

What is one holdup area in my life and why is it there?

What am I going to do about it?

Work Therapy

The therapy of work. How does it work?

I don’t fully understand it. What I have experienced is when a problem gets me down – I am stumped – something is bothering me I cannot solve, if I get to work with some manual labor, it either eases the problem or solves it.

Back in the day the labor was done at the ironing board. Really cleaning of any sort will do the same thing. Then it became gardening, just digging my fingers in the dirt. Piano lessons were another. I could bang it out on the piano whatever was bothering me, and when the piece would get too hard, I would go out to the garden and start digging. When I came back in, my fingers were all limbered up and I could play through the piece too difficult before.

So I’ve come to the conclusion…rather than sit and stew, it’s better to get up and do!

Many hard projects have been accomplished this way. As the body works, the mind thinks.

Maybe that’s where the saying, “Work through your problems” comes from.
