Compelled!

Everyone talks about everything! News casters discuss whatever they want and send it out…ready or not!

Therefore, I am going to talk about things which need to be at least thought about…by all of us. I feel more and more compelled – as times and world events continue – to help us hold the line.

Good will ultimately win. Let’s make sure we are on the winning team. Evil voices are demanding attention. Evil seeks to destroy people and what they have and are doing for the good of others. Evil tries to convince people they are worthless, there is no hope – so go ahead and hate your life and hate others. Evil says things have gone too far, there can be no change. Evil tries to cover the good with darkness so we cannot see the light…see what really is going on. All it portrays is gloom and doom.

Through all the dark clouds of evil there is a light shining brightly saying, ‘This is the way. Walk over here. Don’t listen to that. I will help you. Things will work out for good. Help the other person. Smile at the cashier. Keep your place picked up. Plant some flowers. Make something and take to them. Encourage that person. Do your best.

There is a lot within our own power to improve our life. Don’t hold yourself back, waiting for another’s approval. You be the compelling factor in your life!  Turn the light on. Step outside and find something good you see or can do.

The important thing – begin!

Going Well

Things may not be going well in the world, but they’re going well with me.

How can you say that???!!!  There’s so much to worry about! So many things messed up! People doing wrong, government and politics are out of control!!! How can things go well with me?

Sounds crazy, but I don’t live all over the world. I don’t even live all over my country. I live in one small community. That’s all I can deal with and manage by myself. If I am doing all I can within my capabilities and responsibilities, that’s it! That’s all I need to do and ‘worry about’. Yes, I am deeply concerned about events happening around me and the impact on me and mine, but I can only do and control what I can do and control. The rest I leave to God and pray about it all.

The alternative is to live inside the newsbox, worrying, fretting, afraid, suspicious, critical and unable to concentrate and produce what I need to make and do to make my portion of the world a better place! Can you hear me?! (I have had to talk to myself this way often!)

We have got to keep ourselves moving forward so things go well in our area of responsibility. We cannot lose steam and energy stopping to listen and ponder the next bad thing that happened. It’s not being cruel or thoughtless. It’s maintaining our own well-being. Our minds and bodies are not designed to shoulder the events of the entire world. We don’t live there. We are here and here is where we need to focus our energy to improve, protect and grow.

I can maintain peace in the storms of life through tending to my affairs and helping my neighbors. If we each help and watch out for one another, then our portion of the world will be better and hopefully spread to and encourage our neighboring ‘portions of the world’. But yes, it begins with us.

It is personal responsibility. I am a person. I am going to be responsible. It may be hard and seem out of my comfort zone, but so what! It is my life, my family, my community.

Let’s take care of ourselves and not leave it to another who might not do as good a job!

We America

We America, yes us in the land of the free and the home of the brave, living in the land God gave us, the beautiful land of freedom that most of the world wants to come live in because of her abundance, wealth and freedoms.

Many of us have lost our compass, not knowing right from wrong or wrong from right ‘It’s all relative anyway, whatever I want is the way it’s going to be…all for my comfort and satisfaction,’ some say.

We end up living our lives thinking pretty much only about ourselves and not others or the long-term effects of our thoughts and actions. I don’t think this has been intentional, it has crept upon, causing us not even to consider other peoples’ well-being on a personal level…maybe even our own well-being.

We may donate to charities, we may go to church, we may live in a nice house and have good kids, but are we setting a good example? Do we run people off the road when we’re in a hurry to get somewhere? Do we take out our frustration behind the wheel, intimidating others because of weaknesses in ourselves? This week in a parking lot a woman was almost run over at the crosswalk where she exited the store, by a driver who didn’t see the stop sign at the crosswalk. As we passed each other walking, she said, ‘I think people are so busy and distracted these days, they don’t even notice.’

This softened my heart. People – we – us – are trying to live our lives, keep up with family needs, and get out doing what we need to do.

I ask that we slow down and begin to see other human beings as like flesh and blood as ourselves. We all bleed the same.  People are not just another ‘face’. They have a family, they have work to do and places to go just like we do. Life is too precious. It goes by so fast and can be snuffed out quickly.

Today, I will not allow myself to be so preoccupied that I cannot look out for others, because I hope others will be looking out for me.

Amen.
