A Piece of Pie for You

Several years ago our adult Sunday School class was having a discussion.

Two men were talking about new opening positions at work, hoping to be promoted. There was some consternation about another beating them to it first …and they really needed the increase in pay to provide for their families.

They were afraid if they didn’t get chosen, there would be nothing left for them…no hope.

It occurred to me…they were likening it to a pie with only so many pieces. Once it was all divvied up, there wouldn’t be anything left for them.

But God is the master pie maker here. When one pie gets eaten He will make another one. Who knows, maybe the first pie finished off was pumpkin and you’d ‘a rather had cherry, and that’s what the next pie up ‘just happened’ to be…

God will not run out of what you need.

God will have a piece of pie for you.

It will be a flavor you like!

Start planning your pie.

I’m on a Mission

I am on a mission to bring as much good to this world as I can with the capacities I’ve been enabled.

I want to encourage as many people as possible to see the good things already going on in their lives, already going on in this world of ours and be thankful and commit to uphold and multiply them.

God made us a perfectly good world and He expects us to be good users of it…to take good care of it….to improve it, to make it better.

I think it disturbs the heart of God when we trash what He’s given us, whether it’s our body, our family, our homes and yards or places we go.

We’re in a warfare folks; a warfare with ourselves!

Can we decide we’re going to choose to do good… or do we want to side in with the opposition—looking for troubles, complaining and being unthankful? There are people out there who need us, they need our encouragement, they need our good ideas, they need life, they need freedom, they need compassion, concern and care. They need our help to find their way.

Who are we to hold back what we have from contributing to our world according to our unique and individual giftings?

I think we need to rouse ourselves out of this lethargy and say to ourselves–seek within ourselves–what do I have to bring to the table to help whatever situation I am in….as a people trying to live together in this, our world?

Today, I will do one good deed, think one good thought about myself.

Today, I will do one good deed, think one good thought about someone else.

Today, I will plan for tomorrow to do one good deed, think one good thought…..and then repeat.

Two Lights

We all need light in our lives…traveling often through dark waters.

HELP ME SOMEBODY !!! I CAN’T SEE WHERE I’M GOING !!!

…creeping along, trolling slowly…the atmosphere is thick and cloudy. The mist clings tightly to me.

WHERE IS THE SHORELINE ???

The water becomes more turbulent…will my boat capsize….can I hold on a little longer?

In the distance I see two lights, one a strong steady beam…a lighthouse! I’m approaching the coast…don’t sail in yet, there’s no place to land!

The second light is a freight-liner, out in the deep waters, slowly moving forward. He knows the way, I’ll follow him.

Soon the fog begins to lift revealing a peaceful shore. The loud horn of the freight-liner announces his arrival, and I follow to dry land.

It seems we need these two lights in our lives…one light telling us we’re headed the wrong direction, the other leading us in the right direction.

Our lives often function this way. Sometimes we help alert, other times we help guide.

The important thing is to keep the light lit!

Which light can you be for others today?

You might be both.
