The Work Force

What is forcing you to work at a job you dislike, aren’t fit for, or just hate going to work for? This is not the type ‘work-force’ (forced work) we need.

We do need all hands on deck (pardon an old Navy phrase). There is something… something important that needs doing, having your name on it. This means you are qualified, you are needed to do some task…I don’t mean just one thing for only one time.

But there is a work for you to do which you will like, or can learn to like benefitting you, yours and others.

Skilled laborers. This means somebody (a laborer) doing a task (labor), and doing it well (skilled). ‘I can’t do anything, I’m not skilled and I don’t like to work.’

Yet, everyone likes the feeling of accomplishment -we’re made that way! So perhaps you haven’t found what you like to do or haven’t worked at it long enough to see how good you can become and gain the satisfaction of a job well done! This will propel you. The feeling/knowing you can become skilled, and like doing a ‘well-done’ job might change your mind about work.

I used to hate sewing. (I had to since store bought clothes did not fit me back then; I was too tall) It was hard. It took concentration. I goofed up and had to rip out darts and sleeves so many times there became holes in the fabric. I was learning how. But I could picture the end result if I could ever learn the technique. Now I like to sew and am pretty good at it. I don’t have to force myself to sew what I envision. I think about what I want to make, how I want to do it and begin.

Then the fun starts because I might change my mind partway through and decide I’d like to make it look this way instead. Or use a different fabric or color, or add some trim or different edging.

The point is, we can find something that appeals to us in any category or work and begin to think it through, embellish it, and actually find ourselves creating/making/doing something we like to do.

If you’re a janitor, make your work the best the customer has seen. Surprise them at how good your work is! If you clean houses, make it your mission to cause people to notice the difference. If you mow lawns, let yours stand a cut above the rest. You will feel rewarded with a job well-done and nobody forced you to do good work.

What type of work could you begin doing today?
